The St. Vincent De Paul Society is an international Catholic organization of lay persons who wish to live their faith by loving and serving the poor and needy, on a person-to-person basis, in the spirit of Christ. A key strength of the Society is in the personalized delivery of help. The Society recognizes that it must assume a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless and voiceless. An essential precept of the Society is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the privacy and dignity of those that are served.
Our conference members assist St. Mary’s County residents who need help with basic needs including rent, utilities, medicine and food. During the last fiscal year, we provided over $20,000 worth of assistance to St. Mary’s County residents who were struggling to make ends meet.
In addition, our conference:
Hosts a monthly food pantry
Coordinates the Christmas Angel Tree
Provides twinning support to two Catholic organizations in Peru and
Sponsors the annual Walk for the Poor, a fundraising effort that supports our ministry.
The conference presents a volunteer opportunity to participate in the mission of the Catholic Church by “ministering to the sick and elderly, by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and hospitably reaching out to others.” Participation in the parish’s conference develops the Christian community, wherein members mutually encourage one another in loving God and neighbor.
Meetings are held in the Parish Hall conference room on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 9:15 a.m.
Our current volunteer opportunities are for a Conference Treasurer, and for volunteers who can reach out to our neighbors who contact us because they need help.
