The Anointing of the Sick "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived" (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1514).
Whenever a loved one is in danger of death, the family is encouraged to call for the Sacrament.
In cases of serious illness or approaching surgery, one may arrange to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. In many cases of surgery, the date is known well in advance, so please call the parish office at 301-475-8064 to schedule reception of the Sacrament.
The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated in the Church on the fourth Sunday of each month after all Masses.
