The Liturgy of the Word – Part 1

When we start using the revised Mass text on Nov 27, there will be new words, a deeper meaning, yet the same Mass. Most everything from the first reading through the homily will remain the same. Only two of our responses WILL change. The first is when the presider says, “The Lord be with you.” We will now answer, “And with your Spirit.” This is a more direct translation of the Latin. It also matches the response that already exists in other major languages including Spanish, French, Italian and German. Also, when the Gospel is announced, we will respond “Glory to You, O Lord”. The “O” had been added with the intention of showing greater respect. Those are the only two changes for us between the first reading and the homily!
