Baptism

Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made to be sharers in her mission Catechism of the Catholic Church —1213).

Parents attend baptismal preparation (one, two-hour session) to prepare them to understand the responsibilities they are undertaking in asking that their children become new members of the Church. Though not required, godparents are encouraged to attend the preparation session.

Parents are asked to pre-register for baptismal preparation by contacting the Parish Office at 301-475-8064. All classes are held in the rectory on the lower level from 7 to 9 PM on the third Tuesday of every other month from September to June.

Baptisms are usually performed on Sunday afternoons immediately following the 11:00 am Mass. Parents are asked to please call the Parish Office (301-475-8064) for arrangements as soon as they know they are expecting.
