Disciples with a Mission

Jesus is calling you to be a disciple with a mission! Today, in the light of the word of God that we have heard, what is the Lord saying to us? What is the Lord saying to us? Three simple ideas: Go, do not be afraid, and serve.” + Pope Francis

The goal of Disciples with a Mission is to strengthen parishioners for the Church’s mission by forming them as intentional disciples and equipping them with practical tools for evangelization. Each of the five sessions, presented by Director of Religious Education Leonard Wathen, addresses key aspects of Catholic teaching and the call to evangelize.

Disciples with a Mission Discussion Guide (All Five Sessions)

All five videos may be watched in succession here, or individually below:

Session 1: Evangelization & Faith

Discussion Guide – Session 1 Only
In this session, discover: The Church’s most basic mission is to make disciples. A disciple is someone who has faith in Jesus Christ and in all that he reveals. We can live out our mission only if we are comfortable speaking about Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith.

Session 2: Evangelization & the Sacraments

Discussion Guide – Session 2 Only
In this session, discover: “Cultural Catholicism” is no longer working to keep Catholics in the pews. Disciples know that we need the sacraments, because we need the grace of Jesus. Evangelization involves listening, sharing, and inviting.

Session 3: Evangelization & Holiness

Discussion Guide – Session 3 Only
In this session, discover: God demands our conversion not in spite of his love, but because of his love. Disciples imitate the obedience and love of Jesus to provide an authentic witness. Evangelization requires developing friendships and discerning next steps.

Session 4: Evangelization & Prayer

Discussion Guide – Session 4 Only
In this session, discover: The world today, perhaps more than ever before, needs to learn the art of prayer. Disciples have the discipline to seek communion with God in prayer. Prayer and fasting are among the most powerful spiritual tools for evangelization.

Session 5: Evangelization & the Parish

Discussion Guide – Session 5 Only
In this session, discover: Evangelization is the task of the entire parish, not any one individual. Disciples are all given charisms, or spiritual gifts, to be discerned and used. There are many tasks of evangelization, and each of us must discover our role.
