Readings 15 Oct 2013

Today’s readings are Rom 1:16-25 and Lk 11:37-41

In today’s first readings St. Paul points out the flawed logic of being self-centered instead of God centered. This really hit home for me when meditating on the verse;

“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever.”

How can it be that people would rather put their faith in something that they created instead of having faith in the creator of all things, including them? Today instead of worshiping idols that are “the likeness of an image of mortal man or of birds or of four-legged animals or of snakes” we worship other man made things; money, the bigger house, the newest car, or perhaps our own flawed and twisted thinking of freedom, and relativism. St. Paul correctly points out that our reasoning is in vain and our minds senseless when we begin to think that we are more important than God and that we know better than God.

God the Father gave us the way, the truth, and the life in His only son Jesus. We should not be ashamed of the Gospel and its message. Rather we should embrace and live the Gospel – the good news – the Word of the Lord. It is through reading, understanding, and living the Gospel that we are fulfilled.
