300th Anniversary Committee

Marker at the Old St. Aloysius CemeterySt. Aloysius Church was founded around the year 1710 by the Jesuits to meet the needs of the growing Catholic population in what was then known as “Seymour Town” and later, in 1728, renamed Leonardtown after Gov. Leonard Calvert.

To celebrate our tri-centennial, the parish is planning three years of liturgical and social events all centered around the overall theme: “Celebrating 300 Years of Catholic Faith in St. Mary’s County.”

During the first year, which began on July 1st, 2007 and will continue till June 2008, the parish is focusing our events on our beginnings  by “Reverencing our Ancestors: Celebrating our Past.”

From June 2008  till June 2009 the focus of our celebration will be “Honoring our Present: Celebrating Today;” and during the final year of our celebration the parish will be looking beyond today by: “Dreaming our Future: Celebrating our Youth.”

If you would like more information on the 300th Anniversary celebrations or would like to volunteer to serve on any of the planning committees, please contact the pastor, Fr. John Dakes at 301-475-8064, ext. 14
