Four Ways to Make this Lent Holier

February 13th, 2017  |  Published in News

Ash Wednesday is March 1st, which is just two weeks away! Based on Jesus’ forty days of prayer and fasting in the desert before his public ministry, Lent is a time of spiritual renewal to strengthen us in holiness. St. Aloysius Church is offering four ways to make this season a little holier:

1. Making Time for Easter

Join St. Aloysius Church for a four-part Lenten series entitled Making Time for Easter on February 28, March 14, March 28, and April 11 at 7 PM. Each evening will include Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a twenty-minute spiritual reflection by Director of Religious Education Leonard Wathen, and opportunities for Confession with Fr. David Beaubien. Topics are as follows:

February 28 – “Preparing for Battle: Arming Ourselves for the Season of Lent”

March 14 – “Entering the Interior Castle: A Practical Guide to Contemplative Prayer”

March 28 – “Consolation & Desolation: Navigating the Highs and Lows of the Spiritual Life”

April 11 – “The Way of the Cross: Following Jesus Christ to Glory”

2. Parish Mission with Hobo for Christ, Meg Hunter-Kilmer

Meg Hunter-Kilmer is a hobo missionary. After 2 theology degrees from Notre Dame and 5 years as a high school religion teacher, she quit her job in 2012 to live out of her car and preach the Gospel to anyone who would listen. 50 states and 20 countries later, this seems to have been a less ridiculous decision than it initially seemed.

“Traveling Light, Our Journey with God”
March 19th – 21st
Starts at 7:00 pm at St. Aloysius Church

SUNDAY: Talk, followed by Adoration & Confession
MONDAY: Mass, followed by Talk
TUESDAY: Mass, followed by Talk & Reception in FAW Gym

3. Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly

On Ash Wednesday, we’ll be handing out free copies of acclaimed author Matthew Kelly’s latest book, Resisting Happiness: A true story about why we sabotage ourselves, feel overwhelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack the courage to simply be ourselves… and how to start choosing happiness again!

It is resistance that stands between you and happiness. In these pages you will learn not only what it is, but how to recognize and conquer it in your own life.

Matthew Kelly will also be sending out daily emails throughout Lent to help you get the most out of Resisting Happiness. Sign up online at

4. The Little Black Book

Back by popular demand, we will also be giving out copies of The Little Black Book: Six-Minute Meditations on the Weekday Gospels of Lent. Copies can be picked up after Masses as Lent approaches.
