Discovering Christ: A 7 Week Experience

September 12th, 2013  |  Published in News

What is the meaning of life? Where can I find happiness? Who is Jesus, and why does He matter? Who is the Holy Spirit? What does it mean to be “Catholic”?

If you are asking these or similar questions, St. Aloysius Catholic Church invites you to Discovering Christ.  Regardless of your religious background – even if you have none at all – you are invited to this free seven week experience.  Come October 7th, with no obligation to continue.

Discovering Christ begins with a free dinner at 6:30 pm and includes a thought provoking presentation and small group discussion.  Register here.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is Discovering Christ for?

Discovering Christ is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, whether you are a non-Christian, a non-Catholic Christian, or a lifelong Catholic who wants to relearn the basics of Christianity, especially if you’ve been away from Church for a while.

If you are a committed Catholic who goes to Mass every Sunday and you already consider yourself confident in the Catholic faith, this probably isn’t the series for you, unless you’re interested in helping.  There are a number of other adult faith formation series available at St. Aloysius Church that may be more valuable to you.

What topics will be covered in Discovering Christ?

Topics discussed in Discovering Christ will include the meaning of life, how to find happiness, who Jesus Christ is and why he matters, why we need a Savior, why the Resurrection is so important, who the Holy Spirit is, and why we need the Church.  Details of Catholic doctrine and practice will not be covered in this series, but other opportunities to learn some of those details, in either RCIA or other adult faith formation opportunities, will be available after this series.

Is this series different than RCIA?

RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is the process by which non-Catholics learn about Catholicism and discern the possibility of becoming Catholic.  It includes a number of phases, including a period of inquiry. Discovering Christ will serve as the inquiry phase of RCIA at St. Aloysius Church, but is open to a wider audience, including both Catholics who have been away from the Church for a while and non-Catholics who are just curious about Christ and the Catholic Church.

I’m already an active Catholic. How can I help?

First and most importantly, pray for the success of Discovering Christ and invite your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family members to participate! We are also looking for individuals to help prepare dinner, to help set up, to be a welcoming presence in the seven week experience, and eventually to serve as RCIA sponsors after the series.  Please contact Leonard Wathen if you are interested (301-475-8064 x 16,
