Leaders and volunteers in parish social ministry to the poor and needy, in justice ministries, and in programs that promote the life and dignity of the human person are invited to our fall Gathering. This is a time to meet and learn from each other and to support one another as we seek to reflect the love of Christ in the county and in our church! The focus of this meeting is Archbishop’s Wuerl’s new pastoral letter on the New Evangelization. We will reflect on and discuss the opportunities in social ministry to share the Good News.
Please forward this email to others in your parish and pass out copies of the attached flyer. Many are not on our mailing lists.
The Gathering for volunteers in St. Mary’s County parishes is Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at St. John’s Parish, South Room, Msgr. Harris Center, 43927 St. John’s Road, Hollywood, MD. Time: 7:15 to 9:00 P.M.
Sponsored by the Department for Charity and Justice, Archdiocese of Washington. For further information, call Tony Bosnick at 301-853-5340, or contact him via email.

The Marian Prayer garden remaining workdays of Sunday September 19, Saturday September 25, Sunday September 26, Saturday October 2, and Sunday, October 3, are canceled as we have finished what can be done until the boxwood bushes are available (3-4 weeks). Thanks to everyone who assisted with the 5 workdays spent building the garden. A special thanks to Mr. Combs for being my technical expert, we could not have done this without you.
Next Mr. Atlas is planning to pour a four by four footer inside the Celtic wall for the Blessed Mother Mary statue to rest upon. Once the footer is poured we will back fill in around the footer with the dirt left over from our excavation and seed that area too where the dirt pile is at the moment. Afterwards Mr. Guy will move the Blessed Mother Mary statue to her new home inside the garden where she will be refurbished by a contractor who specializes in this field. Then we will plant some flowering bushes inside the Celtic wall along with some seasonal plantings. The plaque in front of the statue will be moved to the garden too.
Fr. John and I are working to complete a dedication plaque for our new garden also. More details will follow.
Thank you,
Dakota Allen

The 2010 Ministry Fair will be held after the 8:00AM and 11:00AM Masses on Sunday, September 19th.
This Ministry Fair affords you a chance to see all of our ministries in one place. Please plan on attending this great opportunity to meet some of our fellow parishioners and perhaps discover a ministry that you need or one which you can share your gifts.

This upcoming weekend I am going to be working again on my project. I will be planting the front beds and some other plants while Mr. Combs completes the caps to the celtic wall.
I will be starting my workday at 8:00 am and I will end it about 4:30pm. Lunch will be provided. You can come any part of the day. If you can come it will be greatly appreciated. I can use any size of workers since we will just be planting. Please bring shovels, water bottles, and work gloves.
If you would like to help out please call my home 301-997-0014 or my cell 301-997-8615. If you are planning to participant in The Walk For The Poor then you can come afterwards.
Thank you,
Dakota Allen

Last Saturday Mr. Combs brought in some of his friends to help him cut the stones and set up the celtic wall. While Mr. Combs and his friends did that, my parents, some volunteers, and I went to Wentworth Nursery to pick up the plants, soil conditioner, and mulch. When we got back we planted the trees and cleaned up the debris from the stone cutting. The stone cutters also built up the wall and put in the polymeric sand. Last weekend marked the end of working with pavers.
